Watersmeet to Foreland Point

A fantastic circular pub walk is a 4-mile walk from Watersmeet, up to Trilley Ridge, out to the Foreland Point and then back down to Watersmeet via the Blue Ball Inn and Chiselcombe.

Up on Countisbury Hill, the parasol mushrooms are just starting to appear and then out at Foreland Point, I saw a solitary Wheatear and then a Fox moth caterpillar – these are also known as the Devil’s Gold-rings due to the skin irritation you get from their hairs, so don’t try picking one up!

From Foreland Point you get great views up the Bristol Channel along the coast to Porlock and then beyond to Weston-Super-Mare and the South Wales coast.

Walking back towards the Blue Ball, there were loads of Craneflies in the grass – the majority of their life-cycle is spent underground as ‘leather jackets’ feeding on grass roots but then in September/October they emerge & mate to lay their eggs back in the grass & start a new life-cycle

Finally, looking down to the sea at Lynmouth surf was definitely up with loads of surfers waiting for that perfect wave!
