witches butter fungus and Breaking in some new boots
A short circular pub walk as it was the first outing for a new pair of boots. It’s a 2-mile walk from Watersmeet, up to the Blue Ball Inn circling South Hill and back over Trilley’s Ridge.
The autumn colours are magnificent at the moment despite the constant drizzle.
There is Witch’s Butter fungus growing on many of the older gorse bushes and then watching a slug climbing up a thistle to get to the flower shows why sprinkling broken eggshells around your prized plants in the garden won’t stop a determined slug!

Riverside self catering accommodation on Exmoor.
Sitting in a truly special setting right on the bank of the beautiful East Lyn River, the Lodge at Myrtleberry offers comfortable self catering accommodation for up to six people (additional accommodation can sometimes be made available for larger groups up to 11 people - please enquire). It sits in a large open garden on a wide bend of the river, surrounded by oak woodlands on steep hillsides; it is almost the only property in the dramatic National Trust owned Watersmeet Valley.
As seen on 'Britain's Best Walks' with Julia Bradbury.
