The Walker
‘The Walker’ signifies the meeting point of four exceptional national trails.
- Coleridge Way
- Two Moors Way
- South West Coast Path
- Tarka Trail
It sits proudly meet opposite the Exmoor National Park Centre in the Pavilion on Lynmouth’s waterfront.
The sculpture created by Richard Graham who was commissioned to produce a sculpture symbolising walkers using the Coleridge way.
"The Walker" was proudly unveiled on a sunny Spring day, May 8th, 2017 by John Craven from the BBC’s Countryfile.
John was joined by Ian Pearson (a representative of the Coleridge Way), Suzette Hibbert (Mayor), and Kevin Harris (Town Clerk)
The sculpture has become an iconic fixture in Lynmouth and looks out over another Lynmouth icon, the Rhenish Tower.
The Walker is photographed by many, whether walking past or just visiting. And the satisfying act of shaking “The Walker’s” hand and having a photo doing it gives our visiting walkers a wonderful sense of completion. This especially true at the end of a very long-distance walk!
Next time you’re in Lynmouth – shake hands with the walker and share it with the world!
The walking man will spend his summers welcoming walkers and celebrating that Lynmouth is indeed an important center for visitors to Exmoor. He will spend his winters just inside the doorway of the Pavilion away from the gales and high tides which could cause him damage.
