The Rockford Inn is a 17th-century country inn tucked into Exmoor’s Brendon Valley, right beside the East Lyn River. It’s the sort of place walkers and locals treat as a destination: come off the valley paths, get warm by the fire, and settle in for a pint and something hearty.
Pub atmosphere
Inside, it’s classic and unforced: stone walls, low beams, oak, and open fires that make it feel like a proper refuge when the weather turns. The bar has an easy, sociable feel, with hikers, day visitors and overnight guests mixing naturally.
Food and local drinks
Food here is hearty, home-cooked pub food designed to reward the day’s journey — filling, straightforward, and exactly what you want after a long stretch on Exmoor.
On the drinks side, they lean local. Expect well-kept real ales, including Rockford Ale brewed by Black Bear Brewery, plus Exmoor spirits from Wicked Wolf Distillery for anyone tempted by a gin (or a “one last” after dinner).
Stay the night at The Rockford Inn
There are a small number of comfortable guest rooms, with breakfast included — ideal if you want the valley experience without having to drive anywhere after dinner. The room photos show a calm, country-inn style rather than “hotel chain”: wooden bedframes, crisp white bedding, warm bedside lighting and cosy throws that make it genuinely inviting after a wet or windy day out. Bathrooms look clean and modern, finished in a practical, no-fuss way, with thoughtful touches that make arriving tired feel easy.
A practical base for Exmoor and the coast
Being in the Brendon Valley gives you that “deep Exmoor” feel — quiet lanes, riverside paths, and walking routes straight from the door. You’re also close enough to Lynton and Lynmouth for coastal paths, cliff views and harbour time when you want to shift gears.
A New chapter
Jess and Pete took over in January 2026, bringing fresh energy while keeping the core promise intact: a friendly haven for walkers and travellers, welcoming service, hearty food, and rooms that let you properly switch off.
