A free Car Trail for families during the Lyn Valley Classic weekend.
This Car Trail is a simple, low-effort way to explore Lynton and Lynmouth while the Lyn Valley Classic is on. Kids get the fun of “the hunt”; adults get a good excuse to slow down, wander the lanes, and actually step into the independents instead of walking past them.
Do a few windows, grab a coffee or an ice cream, then carry on. Start anywhere. Stop whenever you want. Pick it up again later.
How the Car Trail Works
Start Anywhere
There’s no official start point. Begin in Lynton (up top) or Lynmouth (harbour level). The numbers on the list are just a guide to help you keep track.
Find the Car Picture
Spot the famous car in each shop window
Each participating shop will display a picture of a famous car — from motoring history, cartoons or movies.
Collect Letters
Some (not all) car displays include a letter. When you spot one, write it down next to that shop name.
No letter showing? That’s normal — just move on.
Solve the Secret Word
Arrange the letters you’ve collected to reveal the Secret Word.
Enter Online
Once you’ve got the Secret Word, enter it using the form on this page.

Prize: win a LEGO set
Solve the Secret Word and you’ll be in with a chance of winning a LEGO set — a proper family prize that’s worth the hunt. To be in the draw:

Tips for doing the Car Trail smoothly
Do one village at a time
Most families enjoy this more if they do a loop in one village, then the other. Switching back and forth repeatedly just means more hills than you need.
Lynton vs Lynmouth
Expect a change of level
Lynton is above the cliffs; Lynmouth is down by the harbour and river. Walking between them is doable, but it’s steep — especially with younger kids or a buggy.
Use the Cliff Railway
If you’re planning to do both villages in one go, the Cliff Railway can make the change of level feel like part of the day rather than a slog.
Build in Food Stops
The Car Trail works best when it’s broken up: a few windows, something to eat or drink, then a few more. It stops it feeling like a “task”.
Weather-proof by design
Sea mist and quick showers happen here. The Car Trail still works because you’re moving between shopfronts, not standing in one spo
Spread it over a few days
You don’t have to do the Car Trail all in one go. The competition starts a few weeks before the Lyn Valley Classic, and stays open for a full week after the Lyn Valley Classic, so you can dip in and out across a few days.
