A May’s Farm officially came into being in late 2021 when Alex and Anne bought their own farm at Blackmoor Gate, but in reality, it has been developing for as long as they have been on Exmoor together.

Alex is a fourth-generation farmer on Exmoor, he has always had a passion for farming and livestock. During university he travelled to New Zealand and Australia to learn about their farming techniques. Anne has more of an environmental background and brings a different skillset to the farm. They live and farm at Slattenslade Farm in Woody Bay, their children are growing up on the same farm as Alex.

The Stabiliser beef cattle, Exmoor Mule sheep and rare breed pigs are farmed on rotational grazing systems. This improves grazing quality, animal welfare and has numerous environmental benefits. They have focussed on farming animal breeds that grow well here and that have been bred for meat quality and flavour. Welfare and traceability of the animals are very important.

Homegrown beef, pork and lamb are sold fresh (when available) and frozen in boxes, mixed boxes and as individual joints and cuts. Collections can be made from the farm, with drop offs locally, or via post for those further afield.
