DESCRIPTION:Lynmouth Sailing Club warmly invites locals and visitors to join them for the official opening of the new Boathouse in Lynmouth – a community-led project rooted in remembrance\, safety\, and the enduring spirit of the harbour. \nLocated on the historic site of the original Lifeboat building\, the new Boathouse sits at the heart of Lynmouth and will provide a permanent home for the club’s safety and rescue boat\, “Gilbey”\, along with secure storage for essential sailing equipment and kit. With construction nearing completion\, this marks a major milestone for the club and the wider Lyn Valley community. \nA Project with Purpose\nThe Boathouse and rescue boat are dedicated to the memory of Gilbey Spice\, a much-loved local character whose loss in May 2020 was felt deeply across Lynton & Lynmouth. In his memory\, Gilbey’s family and friends requested donations towards a lasting community legacy. That generosity raised over £7\,000\, funding the purchase of the safety and rescue boat that proudly bears his name. Further support from local businesses helped provide the engine\, but fundraising continued to ensure the Boathouse could be fully completed\, equipped\, and maintained. \nSupporting Safety on the Water\nLynmouth’s harbour is a vibrant hub for water-based activity\, from the much-loved annual raft race and the Lynmouth Regatta & Maritime Festival to rowing\, swimming\, and sailing groups who regularly take to the water. A core aim of this project is to train local volunteers to crew the boat and provide emergency assistance around the harbour and during community events – a wish close to Gilbey’s family and friends’ hearts. \nCelebrating a True Community Spirit\nThis project reflects the adventurous\, generous\, and ever-willing spirit of its namesake – a man known for always saying “yes” and for giving his time freely to community causes. The Boathouse stands not only as a practical safety facility\, but as a symbol of what a close-knit community can achieve together. \nJoin the Celebration\nEveryone is welcome to attend the official opening on Sunday 10th May. Those brave enough to immerse themselves in the pool may find themselves swimming with rock pool creatures\, observed by gulls\, or possibly dolphins. After the dip the curious can explore the beach\, seeking crabs\, prawns and fish in the rock pools. DESCRIPTION:If you like your events messy\, hilarious\, and slightly unpredictable\, the Lynmouth Raft Race is not to be missed. \nTaking place in August 2026\, this legendary event sees teams attempt to race across the harbour on wildly imaginative\, home-made rafts – with varying levels of success. Some rafts even make it to the start line… which is all part of the fun. \nExpect maximum chaos\, enthusiastic crowds\, and the traditional barrage of flour bombs flying through the air as competitors battle the elements (and each other). It’s loud\, it’s daft\, and it’s one of Lynmouth’s most entertaining spectacles. \nA firm favourite for both locals and visitors\, the Raft Race is a brilliant example of Lynmouth’s playful spirit and love of a good laugh – best enjoyed with old clothes and a strong sense of humour.

Must be booked via our bookwhen platform.\n*Home Farm is a Working Farm and Children must be supervised at all times.\n\n Introducing The Chill Sessions A new SEND The Help Family Retreat at Home Farm\, Arlington Court.\nOnce a month\, on the first Sunday of every month\, we’ll be opening up a calm and welcoming space for families raising children with SEND to spend time together in nature.\n\nIf you know us through The Chill Tent\, you’ll recognise the same ethos here – creating gentle\, supportive environments where people can pause\, regulate and just be themselves. This time though\, we’re bringing those “chill” vibes outdoors.\n\nFamilies can expect:\n Nature-based arts & crafts Gardening and outdoor activities Wellbeing walks across the estate Space to connect with other SEND families A relaxed\, accepting environment where nobody needs to explain themselves\n\nThese sessions are completely free\, thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund\, and we are incredibly grateful for their support in making opportunities like this accessible to families who need them.\nA huge thank you as well to Shannon and The Gardeners Co. for trusting us with this beautiful space at Home Farm and allowing us to create something special for the SEND community here.\nParenting children with additional needs can sometimes feel isolating.The Chill Sessions are about changing that.\nA place to breathe.A place to connect.A place where everyone belongs.\n\n Home Farm\, Arlington Court First Sunday of every month Free – booking required
