Visit Lynton & Lynmouth

Lynton & Lynmouth Christmas Shopping 2022

Lynton & Lynmouth Christmas Shopping Weekend

3rd - 4th December 2022

This initiative is being managed and developed by the Visit Lynton & LynmouthLETA and the Lynmouth Association.

The Christmas Shopping Weekend is an initiative to drive trade and inspire people to Visit Lynton & Lynmouth during what is, commonly, a quieter time of year.  A last push, if you like, to gain some additional sales before many of the businesses ‘hibernate’ for the Winter period.

Promotional Leaflets

A5 leaflets will be printed and distributed around local businesses and hotspots across North Devon and Exmoor.

Santa Claus

Last year we struggled to find a Santa willing to commit to two days of being Santa.  And Santa was definitely missed, especially by our Visitors – given the majority of comments we received last year. However, this year we have purchased a dedicated Santa for the duration of the weekend.

It was the intention that Santa would be located in both Lynton & Lynmouth, over the two days, however the Lynmouth Business Association confirmed that having Santa in Lynmouth would offer no great benefit.

Santa Claus will be located on Queen Street, in his “Grotto”, the Cave opposite Willow

Saturday 3rd December: 10am – 12.30pm and 1.15pm – 4pm

Sunday 4th December: 10am – 12.30pm and 1.15 – 4pm

Visits to see Santa cost £5 per child, and each child will receive a gift.

The gifts have been generously donated by the Exmoor National Park at the Lynmouth Pavilion.

Activities, Promotions and Decoration

To help make the Christmas Shopping Weekend an interesting and enjoyable family event, several pop-up activities have been arranged by local businesses …

To further enhance the experience, both Lynton & Lynmouth’s Christmas lights will be installed and operating. Lynmouth Street and Queen Street will have lights, and other locations where possible.

If you know of an event that is happening locally over this weekend, let us know so we can promote it.

Lynton & Lynmouth Festive Shopping Trail and What’s On

The Christmas Shopping Trail will follow the same format as last year.  This year the Shopping Trail Leaflet will be combined with a What’s On / Eating & Drinking Guide. These leaflets will be made available to local shops and cafés shortly before the event.

The What’s On Guide is available for download in A4 size, ideal for Guest Books, Posters, Coffee Tables etc.

Two Towns Shuttle

Both Lynton Taxi companies were offered the chance to provide the shuttle transport but have declined on this occasion.

However, the Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway were still keen to fund some kind of shuttle transport, to support our towns, especially as they’re unable to open this Winter season due to extensive repairs and maintenance.

We are delighted to say that Ilfracombe Community Transport will be providing a minibus shuttle between the Esplanade in Lynmouth and Lynton Town Hall.

Minibus Shuttle Operating Times

Saturday 3rd December: 10.30 – 6.30

Sunday 4th December: 10.30 – 4.00

Free Parking

Free Parking is confirmed and available in the following car parks during the Christmas Shopping Weekend …

Lynton – Cross Street and Bottom Meadow

Lynmouth – Esplanade and Lower/Upper Lyndale

Funding

Last year we benefitted from funding from a Government initiative called the ‘Welcome Back (from COVID)’ fund.  This provided approx. £2,500 to help cover costs of print and promotion, and entertainment.

There are no such funds available for this year, so we’re having to fund raise and ask for contributes from the local business community.

Biggest Ever Raffle!

This year, to help raise funds to cover the Christmas Shopping Weekend costs, we organised one of the biggest prize-winning raffles in our recent history.  Winners can win First, Second or Third prizes.

See the Christmas Raffle page to see the incredible prizes donated by our local businesses.

Other Christmas Events

We’re aware that the beginning of December is a really popular time for other markets and events to happen. Extending our event over a weekend gives visitors plenty of opportunities to enjoy our event and others too.
